Hello everyone, I just got this on fb marketplace for a screaming $200 deal. Previous owner has it on the flip flop hub and I’d like to convert to fixed and tune her up, also have a little bit extra spending cash to maybe do some minor improvements until the next paycheck lol. Any recommendations or suggestions or just roast me into the earth? Not my first fixed gear but I haven’t lived in a place with a bike for over 10 years so I feel a little green. Thanks fam!

Well if it’s a flip flop hub there’s no “conversion” required, just take the wheel off and put it back on with the fixed cog on the other side. If you really want to be a fixie bro take the rear brake off too, it’s not necessary since you can slow the rear wheel by back pedaling (not actually pedaling backwards, it just means applying counter pressure to the rotating cranks)
First things first, I’d say check the brake pads on any used bike just to be sure that your brakes will be working properly. Secondly, contact points! (Saddle, bars & bar tape, pedals) Those will have the biggest effect on your riding experience and are well worth any money you decide to spend. Thirdly, I’d say tires. Whether you’re looking for tires that are more supple if you do a lot of riding and want a smoother riding experience, or tires that are more puncture resistant if you live in a city with less than ideal roads, either will be a good investment for your bike!

Definitely change that bar angle. They’re track bars that have super aggressive drop so you may need some different bars if they’re too aggressive for you.

i would definitely change your foot retention, those cages + single strap esp of that material is ass for basically anything except keeping your foot in (barely does that bc it gets loose over time lol) at least some leather or even better laminated straps if you dont want to replace the cage and pedal itself
