What is the correct way to tighten this saddle clamp? In order to align the grooves on the clamp with the saddle rails I have to rotate the clamp part…and that just doesn't look right. If I keep the clamp perpendicular to the saddle rails, then the grooves on the clamp part are not aligned to the rails…and that does not look right either!

That seatpost clamp is designed for regular round saddle rails, for oval carbon rails you need a different clamp design (some posts alternative clamp parts are available like this Hope https://www.hopetech.com/products/accessories/carbon-seat-post/carbon-seat-post/, otherwise a different post).
