I went to the gym with no locks and came out and not sure if somebody accidnelty locked their bike into mine or was nice enough to lock mine as well

It’s a technique that thieves use so they can come back later (when there aren’t as many people around) and steal your bike

Unless I can’t see the second lock around your wheel or frame all you gotta do is disconnect your brake cable and *ride home. This could have been a bigger problem though.
