Ran some errands with the wife today, and she told me to close my eyes before slipping a 2.5mg THC mint into my mouth. We had a light dinner and I enjoyed an IPA at a local joint and made it home a few hours before sunset.
I rarely partake in MJ gummies and mints—just for occasional kicks. My wife, on the other hand, enjoys them frequently. They definitely help her mood.
Feeling great, with incredible weather—75 degrees and the evening light casting a surreal glow—I thought it was the perfect time for a ride.
My 55-year-old geezer body was feeling better than it had in a while. Recently retired, I've been hitting the gym a lot and getting more rides in. Even managed a long, grueling road ride yesterday.
I headed out to my favorite trails, just about a mile away through the neighborhood, leading to 300 acres of parkland with some of the narrowest, fast-flowing, breezy single tracks around.
I've ridden these trails for close to 20 years and know them like the back of my hand. I powered up the initial climb and then hit the rolling single track. I was flying, picking lines I never ride, and even found a few new ones. I was extraordinarily conscious of my body weight and position on the bike, nailing every turn, riding the front brake hard, no rear skid—just balls-out flying. Popping off every root and bump I could find. Buttery smooth.
One time I almost lost the front as I came in too hot to a sweeper and the tire slipped into the loose stuff, but I saved it. Usually when I'm riding this aggressively there's always at least one major get-off. But I didn't even come close to another mishap the entire ride.
Got home, took an ice-cold shower, kissed my wife, and grabbed my phone to save the Strava. I expected some medals. But… nothing. No records broken, no medals appearing in the app.
What happened? Was I riding fast, or did it just seem like I was riding fast? It was like a dream. Can anyone offer any guidance here? In the meantime, here's a link to an intriguing song.

You just thought it.
You sure it was only 2.5mg??? That shouldn’t have been enough to experience a magic carpet experience.
Sounds like you were just enjoying the ride ✌️
Like surfing stoned, feels like you’re shredding, which you are but in a different kind of tune & fun way. You’re not scoring higher points or faster times, but you are seeing the trail in a different colour.
Stoned riding lesson, leave Strava alone and look for the fun lines, not the fast lines.
I used to smoke heaivily during rides for some years. I only went faster when i smoked so much i had the structural integrity of a wet mop. the downside was that your brain doesnt process anything in the moment so all those near fuck-ups and wheels sliding out and whatnot, would come back as huge (sleep) twitches when trying to fall asleep at night. nowadays i prefer to ride sober, which helps me remember the trails a bit better as well.
Not sure, but this was a lovely story to read.
