I got a question in hopes that someone can help me.

I have a combination of a 54-40 chainring from Alugear and a 11-30t cassette, the last few weeks I am getting issues on mainly the 11 and 12, the chain drops randomly off my chainring (the outside) when shifting.

It mostly occurs when descending and going high speeds and putting power on during shifting, I’m also able to replicate it when going slowly and going to the 11 when putting down power.

I’ve read a few things here and there but am not sure what the cause is.
Sadly cost me the race after a few km today

  1. R8100 FD doesn’t take anything more than 46-52 teeth.

    R9200 FD takes on 54t.

    That’s according to Shimano.

  2. Have you tried tightening the high limit screw? Making sure the derailleur cage is as close to the chainring as it’s supposed to be?

  3. Shimano front derailleurs shift excellently when set up correctly, but IMO they are a massive pain in the ass to set up.

I highly recommend finding the exact user manual for that front derailleur. Confirm that it is compatible with your chainring set up. Then follow the steps exactly as written from start to finish.
