So after having a non-fixable puncture with my first tubeless I went to a bike store and they fixed it right away – new tire (specialized pathfinder pro) on my wtb rims. After inflating them the first time myself I had to walk home because the tire blew and I thought the pump mustve not worked properly possibly measuring the pressure wrong even though I was at around 5,0 bar. So setting everything back up and my confidence already slightly lowered today the same happened with a different pump at 4,8 bar (tire says 3,4-5,5 bar). Needless to say that this is incredibly frustrating – is there anything I am overlooking or couldve done wrong? Can I use the same tire again or is the bead possibly gone?
I just want to ride 😥

Pretty sure the pressure on the tire is the tubed pressure, where the tube will keep the tire on the rim better. The max TL pressure is lower.
Possibly the rims even have a rating on them or the WTB website.

Regardless, if you run what looks around 40mm gravel tires rubeless with 4.8bar, or want to, you are basically nullifying all the benefits tubeless offers. That is way too much pressure even if it held, and you are not gaining any speed. Just giving uo traction and comfort.

I run my 45mm G-one R tires at 2.5bar in the rear and 2.2bar front max. Going 30kph on smooth ground is easy with that. On 40mm I would not go above 3.5bar. And I weigh about 96kg atm.

    How wide are those pathfinders?

73psi (5 bar) is a heck of a lot of pressure for a gravel tire. If it was a 32mm tire, then that’s *almost* ok (I’d run a 32mm tire around 50-60psi.) My tires are usually 44-48mm and I won’t put more than 40psi in them, preferring closer to 30.

Tire pressure ratings are maximums and often refer to the maximum pressure with a tube. Newer tire models are starting to provide separate ratings for tubed, tubeless, and hookless tubeless applications.

You may have damaged the bead, you may not have.

So this once more demonstrated that there’s much to learn, thank you all for your advice – I will never ever trust the pressure that’s written on the tire again – and now I’ve experienced the sticky capabilities of sealant (recommendation: wash it from your legs asap or suffer by pulling each hair separately)

    Lesson learned 😅
