  1. You can only tell a chainring needs replaced visually when they are *extremely* worn out. The teeth will take on the shape of “shark fins”.

    The way to tell if a chainring is worn out is to put a new chain on and pedal super hard to see if the chain skips or “sucks” (chain does not come off the chainring where it should). Often, your cog will be worn as well, so you may need to replace that to be sure that the chainring is skipping and not the cog.

    In short, measure your chain and replace it if it is worn. Visually, your chainring looks like it still has life in it but no-one can say.

    Looks like may be okay for a bit but I’d go ahead and change it if possible.
