  1. I’ve never seen that before. The 3 little holes remind me of the spring holes for a cantilever brake mounting stud, but it would make no sense to have one there. Maybe it’s something someone added, it’s not typical on these bikes. I don’t know, very curious.

    Edit: it also looks painted a different color in that area. Definitely something someone added. No idea why.

    A brake boss is the post that either v brakes or cantilever brakes are installed on. The reason there are 3 little holes beside it is to set different spring tension

  3. Ortlieb has a quick release rear rack system that uses fittings that look like this to allow easy on/off without tools. And I know there is a trailer system that uses something like this, maybe Burley, not sure of the brand.

    Someone may have had pieces welded to the dropouts to allow installation.
