Hi all, I’m currently riding the Peru Divide and loving it! I’m riding towards Ushuaia and have the following concern:
the clearance between my rack and rear tire is quite minimal (less than 1 cm/0,5 inch). Till now I didn’t experience any problems with mud riding in Belgium, Colombia or Peru but did not encounter sticky mud). Could this minimal rack – tire clearance be an issue in the future? I very much like my 2.6 inch tire but could switch to a 2.25. The question is ask myself if this change would have a big effect when encountering sticky mud, and if my derailleur would maybe be the first problem.
Thanks for your advice!

I think any mud sticky enough to cause you a problem with that gap will cause you a problem with a wider gap, you’ll just get another revolution of the wheel before it clogs up.
yep sticky mud requites s lot of care & scraping. I personally like having the rack close to the tire for cg management. Don’t speculate on what is enough. Know it when it happens.
