Half-link-style chains do not have quicklinks. So taking off or putting on the chain is more of a hassle.
Much easier with a normal chain and quicklink to take a chain off the bike to clean it. Also with a normal chain it’s easier to repair a broken chain on the road if you have a spare quicklink in your saddlebag.

I’ve generally used half links for converting geared to fixed / single speed without using a chain tensioner when you have no lateral adjustment possible.
