BIKEPACKING IN FRANCE – DAY 1 – 250km ride

Day 1 of our week long adventure – doing some long mileage to train for a big ride we have coming up in September. Lovely first day despite a bit of hanger!

BJ B we are on a ferry to FR you can’t really see much out there but we’re heading to the tour to front we’re going to have 7 Days in France bike packing we’ve got all our bags over here car’s just currently getting down some breakfast um and we’re doing basically over 1,000 km of riding while we’re there a couple of 200 K maybe a 300 and we’re seeing a bit of stage eight and a bit of stage 10 of the tour very excited about that Kyle’s never been to the tour I went last year for a stage and it was amazing um today we’re doing 240k Kyle is that right we’re cycling from K where the ferry lands to near angerville is that right Kyle um so basically we’re kind of like going to be going we are more northern France our Newville our Newville and we’re going to be like Northern central France today 240 km let’s Ding Dang do just Departed the grand depart down from the ferry got lovely CB bit of bar wi so add the Ambiance that just there is where we finished when we went on the ferry after par Paris press Paris so it’s bringing back the memories in N but I’m excited we got to go through border control now the first thing that we need to do today is really you know immerse ourselves in the French culture and find a bakery for our breakfast or should I say pity D and our prayers have been answered with 10 milon in AKA 16 km and we found a bakery look at this this is what we want to see you happy Kyle you get some water some aqua unfortunately there was nothing really fancy but I’ve got my lovely trusty oh breakfast bar so I’m going to eat that Carl on the other hand he’s gone for bluming lunch thought he’s going to get a quest on he’s got a bloing baguette right there I’m trying not to eating s had win on this trip but I did struggle a bit in there so I’m just sticking to my safe bar but I will enjoy bakery at some point so I’m just going to be positive about that Kyle actually got gifted some tail fins very lucky and they’re working really well I bought my tail F and it was it was expensive but it is really good we got two PES on each and then I’ve got my bag on here for me GoPro we got a lot of stuff in here so basically we’re viewing this ride as sort of a bit of training for a charity ride that we’re doing in September where we’re going to cycle home from Italy so I’ve been a bit of practice with the bikes loaded up see how it works and uh yeah so far so good back on the road again I will be honest the reason Kyle was quiet at the um Bakery was because I had a bit of a meltdown in the bakery not full on meltdown but like I just couldn’t choose anything to have and Kyle wanted me to have something and I didn’t I just yeah but I’ve had a word with myself I’m not going to let this eating sort of ruined this trip I’ve come so far I’ve been enjoying cafes and eating cake and all sorts and I’m not going to stop doing that just because of a bit of a blip so that’s the end of that nonsense let’s enjoy ourselves and eat the bakeries not the whole Bakery but you know eat the saacks in the bakeries enjoy ourselves shake that little toui Carl’s in his highways next stop I don’t have a clue we’re just discovering new places see where we go P’s packing on the cycle P AKA Kyle’s by PCO is packing up those bags Kyle’s about to be in a pack M again but so am I cuz I’ve got bags too so it’s not one-sided this time bour cows Yoo French ladies Madel oh gra oh oh hello find specimen oh I love all the animals in France we’ve seen goats we’ve seen horses cows all sorts I’m keeping my eyes peeled for donkeys cuz we know love a donkey but what I’d also say it’s like bling dead man’s land around here there’s no cars anywhere it’s great you’ve seen a donkey yeah when looking at it where oh very funny he said I’m the donkey I thought you’d seen one I got excited we’re 47.5 in or 76 keton and cars just sto for a little bagette Munch H an egg ham an egg oo that is a jambon at o I believe in French you didn’t manage it order breakfast did you it was rather strange breakfast choice to be honest with you but how’s PCO doing with the weight in the back we good where are we I don’t have a clue where we are thep that way which way we going now no we’re going to the sappy some tree sap car’s just dissecting his bagette no you wanted I just wanted to try a bit of the egg if that’s all right wagon going past have a bit the egg do you mind no just don’t think really just want oh no it’s like an earring tomato huh oh yeah I love tomato oh it’s quite salty though quite salty that’s nice took it out the b m Mill that’s what Kyle was earlier in the bakery AKA miy oh wow look at this we’re in a place called gase GAC we’ve got this lovely chatau wow it’s pretty feel bad that don’t know any history about it but it looks nice anyway we just got up here and the bells rang three times and bl missed him but it’s great it’s like a museum I think it says Maria I don’t even know but it’s a lovely f Mountain car just texting his grandma to happy birthday and it’s great it’s very pretty I love I have to say on a serious note I love the architecture in France it’s just so nice love the little Shutters on the windows and very historic need to open the game in England actually there are some nice there are some nice buildings but not compared to this we’re now going up a 1.5 Malone climb it’s quite a flat day today and it goes up 300 ft so not too bad but I can feel the weight on the back and B let me tell you lovely views it’s like the English Countryside 1,37 ft up in the air but I can’t be top of the old ANS on this road cuz the car might come past so don’t want to get run over I’ll do me top of the old dance on the next clim instead y woohoo there we go this is the laugh car’s equipped with his buett right we’ve come to a uh road block and they won’t let us go through um so it looks like we’re going to have to do quite a big detour to get around unfortunately I think if we go up there turn right and left this is where we are you see right up here go right Kyle and then left and then we’ll join it right no right and then left going the opposite back over no we’re not if you go right and then left no up here look on my map no look seriously on the Garment turn right and then turn left oh sorry I mean turn right I get right to left mixed up turn right and right yeah yeah we’re gonna be adding miles on here I’m ready for lunch right and them right my b not left yeah luckily we’ve got the map aka the gy so we can just look where we need to go instead and it’s not too far to detour I think it’ll only add on a couple of Malone well with the four Malone detour to tour can’t even speak in the Lain we’re back on the route there it is than this fell cuz KL was losing the wheel wen’t he my water we stopped once all day and even that stop three times yeah I’m drink once at the monument where you are food here drink here I’ve got snacks in me back bag I’ve got drink here do you want some no what do it mean then why don’t you want some cuz then you’re not going to have water are you I’m fine I’m like a camel I’m fine this we’ll wait till we get lunch hour we’re not far away okay riding by the water car’s whipped off you can tell he’s got lunch on his mine blow in eh he like a rocket not even catch where is he there he is he’ll cheer up once he’s at his lunch we always have little tiffs every now and again but it’s normal isn’t it wasn’t really a tiff just a bit of a grouchy moment but I know once dy’s food he’ll be happy again to be fair I’m I’m hungry now as well we’re on the hunt for somewhere to stop for food but it doesn’t look very likely at the moment it’s pretty desolate desolate I don’t know the bloing word Kyle has got a baguette in his back pocket I’m snacked but he’s not eating him so why won’t you you eat them Kyle you I can see you bagette why don’t you eat that I had enough I need a drink I’m B Psy cuz like suy drink and Stu do you want my water no I don’t want any water okay you don’t need it no it’s all right I’ve don’t know when the next office so last time I drinking water you know oh sorry we’re on the hunt for food Foody Woody wood I’m hungry now so the next place we see better be good even if it’s not I’m stopping I don’t care I don’t give a Scooby I’m hoping is going to be somewhere soon but it’s pretty uh Bleak around here hey we’ve come across a lovely town and even better a bonger bong basically a bakery Kyle’s gone in cuz he is hungry so he’s going to come out with something and I’m going to go in and get my lunch we got lovely little Canal River thing as well it’s beautiful so making mates with the pigeons going to get my fill right car’s got his two of CLA and he’s sing into his Oasis I’m going to come in now oh wow look at this oh la la wow so there’s so much to choose from so nice bling EO come here again it’s right barging €20 I got water not happy about the plastic but nothing I can do about that they didn’t have any tuna bagett but we did have salmon so it’s a great alternative more pricey normally I think and a lovely chocolate chip cookie so winner winner from SE dinner let’s Tu in cook the camera I’m ready to eat the car’s already tooken in to is flipping now you like that I’ve gone for sweet cuz I already had half of B that lunch went down a treat but it’s always the same you stop and it’s always a hill to come back onto but I can’t complain it’s a french hill so I’m living my best life really but oh got a bit of Cafe legs I feel the lactate building up inside my loins oh I picked up fizzy water instead of still at the bakery and now my bottles like when I have a bottle my tongue is fizzing but oh at least wakes me up a bit when I take a a sip makes me feel more alive but I’m not a fan of the fizzer I’ve got to say it’s pretty Kyle look at the buildings check out the brick work on these bad boys five Malon down the road from lunch and bluming he it’s heating up like Club out here night club on a Saturday nighted so I’ve taken off me out ler that’s going back pocket we’ll go onwards we’ve got 72 Malones to go we’ve done 81 we got some friends over here I’m not going to say hi to them my card way you need a weed don’t you you’ve delayed as well you I have I’m grossing have you cheered up now yeah good what was up with you knees hting again knees hurting really getting to me now hey there ladies a think I scared them a bit oh minut there’s a chicken over there it’s got bare legs bald legs Bal legs I don’t know oh that one’s choking at me hello there I love seeing all the animals it’s great France’s got loads of animals the only thing is it’s quite flat where we are sort of West of Paris and I am missing the hills but I’m glad there’s none because Kyle wouldn’t be happy with his knee we’re going to have to get it sorted yippy woohoo down we go little yippy you can’t beat it the Flatlands of France Speed Demon mode he hey still got that blowing baguette we got about 63 Malones or miles to go and Kyle’s just informed me very happily that we only have 800 ft of climbing to do which is very flat for us it’s like a BL pancake around here where’s all the hills but I’m not going to complain because we’ve got another long day tomorrow so the legs could use a bit of relief you’re not too hot with those leg warmers on no it’s July in France it’s nice it is about 22° it’s not too hot but how you wear them I mean you did shave your legs last night so you not got that to in work outside s very clima CL shaved his legs and came and said Amy do you like my legs I was like oh bluming up Kyle you’re turning into a right cycling machine wow we just like cycling through the middle of this sort of gap between a lake and it looks like some sort of old historic ruins ahead of us I’m not sure what it is we have to have a look Discovery I feel like David atra apart from Peter’s nature and this isn’t really nature but you know you get the gist we’re discovering a new artifact what is it it’s like an old ruin Kyle we’ve spotted a plaque so we’re going to have a look if n was here he’d be telling us what it was what do it say here oh it’s all in is that Latin or something oh no it’s a French something or something something I don’t know what that means but it looks like an old sort of Castle or something like Palace maybe some old King used to live here there is a lot of resembl it from Latin and French yeah but it’s lovely it’s love thank you car it’s laf vame so something I’m sure some will know but we’ll have to Google it when we get home I’m appreciating the beauty of it car’s appreciating a drink I just love cycle touring because all you’re thinking about is like the next place you go into looking around thinking about food like that’s all you have to worry about feeding yourself getting to the next place and just looking around and all your worries from home just fade away and it’s just the best feeling ever and I’m so so grateful we get to do this on are you Kyle I am I do the wi says 6th of September 19735 on there the first ever tour with we land and joh a greates in North Coast 500 before YouTube when I was struggling quite a bit and bloming they were like therapy for me and now I’m in such a better place and it’s just the best in it Kyle yeah when you’re in a good mood anyway sometimes you’re a bit of a m Mary booger you’d be Mar booger pay my I know I feel bad for you but I also don’t because you did a 600 and another 100 Miler when I told you not to with poly KN no 200 600 and 200 exactly too much your knee is under strain highest point of the ride and cars just informed me this is the highest we’re going to be for the rest of the ride I think it’s time for a top of the hill dance now because of the surroundings that we’re in we’ve got Penny on tour we got Paco on tour we got a nice Regal background I think it needs more of a Regal dance today so we’re going to go bit of French is that French no that’s Italian but anyway and then little hey oh that click wasn’t up to standard actually got get some more food down we need to F The Click aoir ancient Shadow we are tazing along te to the Ain oh we just had a quick water relief stop we just both ran out of water for the last 10 miles trust us like usual found a massive Supermarket St K to get us a bottle of water reach what’s to come out with good think we are camels um trust me to get stuck behind the BL this bought his vegetables and forgot to get that un sack oh dear so he had to go back to the vegetable L waiting also I had5 in cash they try and use that up cuz it’s in Coppers and it’s weighing me down he spent 3 cents over it so he had to use the hard what a joke too I feel bad about all this plastic hey what else you got down there sweets that Pap aasis as we know in France a lot you do love that don’t you and some W oh yeah get that down you well according to mate G we’ve done 117 Malones and we’ve got 36.4 to go hey we’re loving this little cycle Lane very very thoughtful for the cyclist the French do love the veos well we’re in chatra tra however the bluming ne you say it and we’ve just been doing a detour all around the bluming town to try and find this bad boy because we could see it but we couldn’t work out hard to get to it but we found it look at it it’s that’s a fine bit of architecture that it is don’t make houses last anymore houses not a house car look if that was your house building it’s amazing good detail in it’s Garo you see all the Garo at the top look yeah hey that spy is difference that one you like scoop that one yeah why is one one of them bit older than yeah maybe one got knocked down or something rebuilt bye orvo on the road again going places we ain’t been before Oh hallelu we arrived we end up you’ll be making the French ladies wink car’s got p on his mind and so have I K you going to give me a pizza on mind if I carry on playing a we’re on route to the pizza place and I thought Hold Up Wait A Minute the boerie open until 7:30 in the p.m. so B to pay in their prices in a restaurant for puddings we’ll take these back to our boo h on why’ you open it a actually salot taped it down that’s a good idea when I want to do a grand reveal of it we do after do a grand Ral lat you don’t I can rip open it he pom pom another actually third CL day Kyle another class and the great thing is I Ed out the tail fin so they might be a bit squished by the time we get back but I’ll fit them in is that a real like I mean it’s prot Cris on top I need some egg yeah you need some protein some carbs tomorrow tomorrow we’ve got another 250k with a lot more hit so they get carbed up and ready for that oh at this point in my [Applause] life you could feed me rotten egg and I think it was good cuz I’m that hungry but what I would say is what I do prefer more of a a bit of a thicker base and like bubbly you know bubbly crust not there but I’ll take it16 don’t know if that’s a bit expensive or not can’t really tell plenty of toppings i’ would say [Music] good portion of tuna is definitely more than tin on there happy about that tin of Tunas go up in prices EAS I mean go too hardly for a tin of tuna you looking at over a pound do like robbery but I do love a bit of tuna so yeah this will go down my glitter treat right we’re back for my pizza sorry if it’s a bit dark in here just want to finish on the ride stat so we did 1554 Malones AKA 250 colonies uh went up 4,882 ft not sure what that is in meters but not too hilly for us pretty flat for us actually total time with our BMS were in the saddle 9 hours and 32 minutos so absolutely great and what you’d be really pleased to know is that the cake survive the trip home so they’ll be devoured now in my bed we better get ready for tomorrow cuz tomorrow we’ve got another 250k day with a bit more climbing so time for an early night of Kip hopefully I sleep better than I did on the ferry that’s it really thank you so much for
