what’s going on guys JPS back for another video and today we’re going to be reacting to what it was like to live in Great Britain during the 1970s so the 70s the decade that both of my parents grew up in a decade I’m not familiar with whatsoever really and a completely different time of life like things were just so so different I mean some of the things we’re going to see in this video 50 plus years old everything was different back then and uh I’m excited to see what things were like especially in in the past in Britain you know we watched some older shows over on patreon uh and some older movies as well further back than the 70s uh a matter of life and death is a movie I think of that’s really old that we’ve watched but there’s you know a lot of really big like just the way Society looked back then is just so like it’s almost like Black and White compared to now literally is black and white for some of the pictures but it’s just crazy to think how far we’ve come in what is only half of some people’s lifetime like I don’t really want to know what it’s going to be like in 50 years from now what are the 2070s going to look like I don’t think anyone really wants to know anyways let’s get right into this guys consider joining the patreon first link of description for full reactions to British shows and movies we’ve reacted to quite a lot of content from the 1970s there but I haven’t really got a glimpse of what that real life was like in the 1970s in Great Britain so let’s get right into [Music] that bro [Music] what the heck heck is this video I was not expecting I guess we’re going to have photos but everything looks so uniform and then also like the Cadbury machine cigarette machine the shocking part of on those machines are the prices 20p oh my [Music] oh [Music] something’s never changed Cadbury has had that uh Monopoly for a very long time haven’t they [Music] Macintosh what the hell [Music] someone tell me what this is like what is that even for I have no these Electronics look so crazy to me right now oh [Music] my wow [Music] oh [Music] why does everything look so like clean in all these pictures like I don’t see any like you know what I mean maybe the quality isn’t as good and stuff but this looks like a pretty like a city and there’s no trash or anything like I literally can’t see any Trash maybe it’s a nice area but I’ve been noticing that in a lot of these different photos like it just looks so crispy like the the pavement the sidewalks everything just looks so you guys see this too I’m not like exaggerating right now like there’s literally what is [Music] this oh my God hold on hold on Big Ben and this is L okay bro London does not look like this there’s no way they still had scaffolding everywhere though some things never [Music] change Bobbies [Music] [Music] I got to say I do like these old uh police uni form this kind of reminds me of Only Fools and Horses the way the policemen are dressed I’m pretty that show might be from the 70s I think [Music] so Tesco [Music] why is he mopping the street up is that why the streets are clean mopping this like I’ve never seen that before and the bikes that kids ride on too they do look they look really cool I’m not going to lie those bikes I don’t see too many kids biking around anymore especially not in [Music] cities oh [Music] oh my God 10p for a sandwich wow that’s it’s hard to believe honestly [Music] oo that bike is so fire so like I said before that I wasn’t familiar I’m definitely not familiar with the 70s in Britain especially in real life but like there is some familiarity with Only Fools and Horses like seriously because that show takes place in London it’s around this time period so I’m having so much like Nostalgia from all those episodes that we’ve seen so far even though we’re only in season 4 right [Music] now o ooh [Music] a [Music] what I don’t understand this like what’s this all about why are there troops like honestly I’m not too familiar historically with the 70s either especially in Britain this these have to be football fans right there’s no way they’re not they all look pissed [Music] [Music] [Laughter] everything electric it looks like yeah there’s so many like weird appliances bean I mean I guess the Bean Cooker makes sense but peanut butter maker like they not did they not sell peanut butter back then oh that does look good those waffles right there okay okay I’ll stop hating now [Music] [Applause] even wood on the cookware bro they’re doing that’s so extra but that’s just the time period this is what I was qu like what that’s a great deal but how much peanut butter are you eating [Music] who doesn’t like fondu let’s be honest it’s delicious six hot dog okay [Music] oh they really had something for everything bro like literally they had something for every every single thing you would need in the kitchen oh my like why don’t we have these types well actually what am I saying everything is automated nowadays um anyways this was a really good video I like this end bit too where we look at all these different appliances I guess you would call them tools I don’t even know hot dog cooker like I feel like a lot of these are redundant because you can use for the for some of these thing a good amount of these these things es except for making peanut butter you could just use like a skillet to cook it but anyways it was really cool to see what it was like during uh the 70s obviously I don’t know what it was like and this is just one video and I think a lot of these a good amount if not most of those photos were from London or from cities so still need to I definitely want to check out more of like uh the past in Britain what things look like especially since I’ve been there now and I can just see there’s an enormous differ difference especially some of those photos from London it’s like crazy how much things have changed but that’s everywhere of course but yeah anyways let me know for those of you who uh have lived in Britain in the 1970s in the comments let me know what it was like compared to now and thanks so much for watching guys I really appreciate you guys and I will catch you all in the next one peace

  1. Every tube station had on the platforms machines that dispensed chocolate bars, and cigarettes – separate machines. I miss the chocolate. Women could safely go inside a shop and leave their babies parked outside in a pram!!

  2. I remember my first, though incredibly brief, visit to the UK in 1979. My parents and I were returning to the States from Cairo and missed our connection at Heathrow back to New York. So instead of staying in the hotel British Airways put us up in, my father said “let’s see the sights” and we were off to take the Tube into London around 9pm.

Upon entering the train the first thing we noticed was a sign alerting passengers to notify a policeman or conductor (someone in authority) if one noticed any unaccompanied bags or parcels. I was only 11 and asked my father what this was about and he told us it was because something left unattended could possibly be a bomb planted by the IRA. The UK was already experiencing something we in the United States wouldn’t have to live with until decades later.

  3. Well… in those days peanuts cost…peanuts, so you could get a lot of peanuts very cheaply and peanut butter was probably considered expensive and had all kinds of additives. That peanut butter maker would have been great… until you had to clean it…yuk 🤪. The troops, riots and burned out houses were in Northern Ireland, the 70`s were the height of the 'troubles' . People wouldn`t just throw things in the street and yes, if you were a store owner you were responsible for the area directly outside your business and most of them considered having a clean store front, 'putting your best foot forward'.

  4. There was a lot of violence between Catholic and Protestant paramilitaries in Northern Ireland in this period. The mainly Protestant police (Ulster Constabulary) there were seen as biased, so British troops were stationed here effectively as 'policemen', but then they became the focus of the Provisional IRA (Irish Republican Army) violence. There were frequent killings and bombings, both in Ulster (Northern Ireland) and the British Mainland, by the 'Provos' (IRA). This period lasted for many years and there were some horrific acts of violence, including tit-for-tat killings on both sides.

  5. The thing I noticed during the pandemic, when people were staying home, is the lack of cars on the roads and the air just felt so much cleaner and so much less noise. We were allowed to go out for a walk on the daily for exercise and It felt like I had been transported back to the 70/80s when I grew up.

  6. Worst thing i remember as a kid was dog shite everywhere. Playing in the park was nasty. It was even on the street.
Nowadays everyone picks up after there dog. Well at least in my area

  7. I was born late 1950’s so my teen years were through the 70’s. It was a great time to go through my teens. I would go back to that time in a heartbeat. People had time for each other. We had great music, great fashions (although you may not think so in this may and age) people cared about each other. I joined the police myself in 1977 and one of my first duties was lining the streets for the Queens Silver Jubilee when she visited Cardiff. The policewomen wore skirts not trousers back then.
Sadly “The Troubles” in Ireland was a bad time (hence the troops).
We did have some fast food outlets the most popular where I lived was Wimpy. (The best burgers ever imo)
I loved the 70’s its was a fantastic era.

  8. 4:09 those are computer games. Judging by the lines on the screen, I'm guessing that by "Football" they mean American "football" because that isn't what a football pitch looks like.

I grew up in the 1980s. Most of what I see here are familiar to me.

10:49 – OXO chocolate, though – the same company that makes stock cubes makes chocolate? I trust it isn't chicken or beef flavoured chocolate?

  9. Hello Joel have you ever done a reaction to Eddie Izzard stand up shows. I think you would love his stuff. May lighten your busy times right now? Ron

  10. The UK was one of the most equal big developed countries back then, before Thatcher trashed public service infrastructure. ended quality public house building and guess what, the conservatives did it all again with sewage literal and metaphorical for the last 14 years!

Remember how Sundays were so bloody boring? We've gone too far in a commercial direction, and coukd do with a better balance if rest without pressure to buy, buy, buy and get into debt.

  11. Another thing is the 3 day working week due to the miner's strike. Not having any electric lighting, only lighting from candles and the coal fire during the off period!
We had less & were happier!

  12. (my home town) 4.49 Croydon (bus coming up to East Croydon Station – 4.50 Croydon, Wellesley Road 403 Green bus, Croydon centre, office blocks – 5.10 Croydon underpass and College in background (Croydon is in Surrey, South East England) – doesn't look like that now

  13. There are quite a few american only things all those appliances are american we never had peanut butter makers never heard of them and we call crockpots slowcookers, no bean cookers or hot dog cookers or wafflemakers
