I’m currentling battling the Hope1000 bikepackingnroute and 6 days in I have “only” made a little bit over 40% of the route and I haven’t reached the high alps yet. I’m. Not sure I will make it to Montreux in my remaining 8 days but I’m not giving up.
Most climbs are so steep I need to push my bike up. I guess I should have came with a wider gear ratio.

Yeah, Swiss off-road is no joke. I got washed in those bike marathon races in Jura and Crans Montana. Both DNFs.

  2. Very nice! It is also on my bucket list. Do you mind sharing your equipment you brought along?
Enjoy the ride and you will make! 👍🏻👍🏻

  3. I’ve been interested in this route. What is your bike setup? And what kind of gearing are you set up with?

Have a great time out there!

I live in Switzerland and always tell people they need a very low climbing gear for touring here 😉 sometimes they don‘t believe me. Yes the climbs really are that steep hahaha

I am currently running a 3×9 22-34-44 x 11-36 which gives me a gear inches of 17 in my climbing gear…. Sometimes I still wish I had something lower.
