I'm 41. Havent ridden a trail in years. My old bike is a 1996 proflex. Do y'all think this will serve me well for light trail/ xc? I won't be bombing it downhill. What do you see that will need to be replaced first? I'm planning on a dropper post. Are the specs ok for $1100? Lil worried about the Microshift drivetrain. https://gtbicycles.com/products/zaskar-fs-sport

Yeah the thing looks pretty fun. Looks like it’s not coming set up tubeless, so I would handle that first. Aside from that, ride the thing until something breaks or starts giving you trouble. Brakes and tires are the most important things on the bike so make sure the ones it comes with are meeting your needs.
I just didnt feel like the polygon d5 or d6se are as nice. I like the GT name better. I’ma whore. Free shipping and no tax added sold me on the GT.
Geometry is very modern with udh to boot. I would replace the coil fork with a used recon rl.silver for $100 and call it a day.
Contact points, both for you and the ground.
I give the MicroShift Advent mad props. Had it on a Specialized Fuse. Reliable as all heck. Even during a race, downpour, and straight up mud fest. It shifted up and down no problem, super dialed in. Aside from contact points a different fork would really change the ride of that bike for the better.
Dropper is the most important part for sure. Dropper hard tail is more capable than a fs without one in a lot of places. Pedals soon and real tires before you even ride the thing. Better fork and brakes eventually but not the end of the world.
Seems like a great value. Tubeless would be my first priority. From there I’d be looking to upgrade to an air fork and add a dropper.
