In a hurry to change pedals I stripped the DS threads on the Ultegra triple of my old Cannondale R1000. (1999). Love this bike, my first road bike. Should I tackle this myself with a tap kit or send out to be done?. I’ve worked métal a bit so not afraid to try. Im worried about drilling out especially because I don’t have a drill press ( I guess I could find one if need be. )

you could use a sleeve or helicoil to insert a pedal again, you would also need the correct drill bit and tap + red loctite probably to do this.

You do not need a drill press. A pedal can be tapped using hand tools. A bench vise is helpful
If your threads are so far gone that you need a helicoil insert, that too can be done with hand tools.

The cost of these taps and tools may be more than the crankarm. An Ultegra crankset on eBay from this era might be $50
Edit- just search for the model number and crankarm length stamped on the back of the crank. [Here](https://www.ebay.com/itm/116180603889?l) is a FC-6503 in 175mm length
