What makes this bike French? Bike has mainly German Sachs-Huret parts. Don’t know the groupset because it’s so entry level that it doesn’t make any catalogue I am aware of. But the “Sachs Huret” branding dates the component manufacture dates to between 1980 and 1987. Mavic Module 3 rims are contemporaneous with that date range.
Bike doesn’t apoear to have French bottom bracket threading. I can see “1.37” stamped on the Japanese “Sakae” bottom bracket, which is either English or ISO threading. Does the steerer have French threading? The ATAX “1A”stem looks like a swap out – it’s a bit nicer quality than the rest of the kit.
What stands out for me on this bike is the round fork tynes. That’s usually something only found on much earlier (pre 1950s) bikes or track bikes. My guess is that the manufacturer got some leftover tubes on the cheap and decided to use them up on their entry level frames.
Looks like a solid bike which will last forever, even if it’s a bit heavy. No chance of identifying the maker, especially now it’s powder coated. Just ride and enjoy.

No idea what it is. But I love its cable routing.
I have a Gitane that is similarly equipped, but the frame details are way different.
