      expensive but much cheaper than an emergency visit to the dentist

      Gary of Gary’s Projects came up with a front basket mount using IKEA Observator cross braces. He had a whole [video on it](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V1q7o06KtRE). I used the same braces and hose clamps with a basket I found in my garage. It can hold at least as much as that Sunlight rack. Which I’ve also used with no issues.

      I use the sunlite cuz its cheap and it works just fine. But if u got the cash, go for the Surly 8 pack.

      I like the Wald 137 with struts, but I’d also recommend the very similar one piece beach cruiser style basket that hangs from the handlebars and rests against the bike’s head tube. No rack or braze ons needed. Many have a handle so you can just lift the basket off the bike to go groceries.

      I’ve used these on rented beach cruisers. In a pinch, I’ve hung a cat litter pail pannier off one side, full of fishing tackle and holding two rods and reels, while a lunch cooler sat in the basket loaded up with drinks and bait and ice packs. It wasn’t pretty but it worked fine. Beach rental bikes are heavily used and these racks are durable. They are also cheap, like 20-30 dollars.

      BTW, I had that Sunlite rack many years ago. Mine broke with no load at all, after almost no use. I hate to say it, but I was literally just riding along! If you were to hold one, you would LOL at the thought of it safely supporting a basket with say, a 15 lb dumbbell in it.

      I’ve really liked the Pelago steel racks for an affordable and strong solution. Work with most bikes with either a fender or rack braze on. If you want a rando rack like this style spend a little extra on a Nitto or something similar. Like people have said, cheaper than the dentist. I don’t understand the people who defend these pieces of shit racks. JBI is never gonna sponsor them

      Cube RFR front carrier is a good solution. Fits up like a sunlite but way more robust in my experience.

      I had issues with my sunlite on rough terrain. Seems like it’s really intended as a buffer below a handlebar bag.

      I replaced it with a surly 8-pack that’s been good.

      I use the Topeak unit with the slide on off system to attach their bike bag.

      just ponied up the money for a nitto after this piece of shit snapped under 4 lbs of weight.

      I’m running a Linus lunch rack with some license plate brackets zip tied to it to widen it up a bit. I think a twelve pack is probably about the limit and I wouldn’t even take that off-road but it works too and from my local liquor store

      Just got an Atran Velo front rack which mounts to the fork. It’s really sturdy

      Adding in my voice here to say: *please avoid this rack.*

      I’m one of many who have been hurt by its failure. The bracket snapped and locked up my brakes, I’m lucky I’m not paralyzed or worse. It’s failed many times before and it’s bound to fail again. Is being behind it a risk you want to take? Spend a little more money for a reputable brand (soma, Nitto, surly, VO, Old Man Mountain) and sleep a little easier.

      I use the RFR front rack. Super cheap and looks alright imo. Haven’t really tested it yet since the bike is not finished.

      I have the same, but I had to make small cut out on the bracket that holds to the fork, because it was intefereng with my V-brakes.
