Help. I'm newish to cycling and made a dumb mistake by routing the chain outside of the metal tab near the upper pulley.

I rode 12.99 miles on and off eco-mode (class 3 ebike), realizing halfway through that there was a clicking sound from the chain.

I had just waxed the chain and was excited to test it on the road. Should I replace the chain to be safe? Or rewax it? For sure I see that the tab on the derailleur is worn down a bit by the chain.. sigh..

  1. This is a right of passage. Congrats! Re-Route, carry on and enjoy your (now) ultra quiet drivetrain

  2. Made the same mistake 2 weeks ago. Made the repair on the side of the road. Ultra quiet after

Nothing to worry about. That steel the chain is made out of is way tougher than the aluminum used for cages. The cage is also not harmed by a little rubbing.

  4. I seriously don’t think I’ve ever put on a chain without doing that first…

yours looks better than mine does. I almost sawed that piece off. On the plus side, it would’ve never given me any trouble again.
