My ortlieb bag is past max load capacity (recommended 5kg) mines is 8.5kg. So l've added a rack to support it which is also allows me to carry shoes and a lock without adding side bulk. Wanted to see people's thoughts or similar setups.

Btw my tent is a big Agnes blacktail hotel 2p and will go in my handlebars with my sleeping mat
Fork bags: electronics-waterproofs-snacks

What’s wrong with panniers if you’re going to carry this much?
Just did a trip from London to Glasgow setup like this

Just found the extra space and weight distribution from front to rear too much. I had around 25kg on the rear and 4 on the front. Now I’m at about 12kg rear and 8 front
I did also look at seatpost racks as a stabilisers but I don’t have enough seatpost and they also weigh more than my current rack. Even the Aeroe Spider is 1.1kg compared to mine which is 700g, also I can save £90
At this point, i would strap a drybag to the rack plattform. Makes it simpler to work with, and looks much nicer.
Ortlieb do a support strap that might replace the pannier. You’re asking a lot of the bag though, if you’re able to spread some of the weight elsewhere it might work. Bet you’ve got space inside your triangle for the lock
What rack are you using in the photo?
I’m thinking just a lightweight 15 liter drybag strapped to the rack would be lighter and more accessible. I’m a fan of the Exped Endura drybags with the webbing hoops to add extra strapping down options.
damn I like the way you mounted the U-lock
Drybag + poco panniers. Lower center of gravity, better bike handling, modular capacity, ease and speed of loading/unloading and no strap fest to fail or rattle.
If you don’t like panniers you should look into a trunk pack. Saddlebag overpacked to the point of needing a rack is kinda silly and defeats the purpose of the saddlebag design
i’d just buy a 20lt cylinderical dry bag and strap it too your rack and forget about the saddlepack all together 🙂
Could you just take less stuff?
