My rear rotor has this copper looking stripe on both sides, lining up with bits of the rotor sticking out from the surface (second pic). The Shimano L04C metallic pads are almost done, and they have a groove in them that lines up with the one on the rotors.
Could the metal sticking up be from rock strikes? Is this heat damage, or maybe something got caught and embedded in the pad? Are these rotor toast? They measure at 1.65-1.7mm with my calipers. The stripe doesn’t appear to be an actual groove on the rotors, more of excessive pad deposition.

Ordered replacement pads and rotors. Kinda bummed, this rotor is only 3 months old. The 180mm front is doing great at 8 months old. Guess I need to my bias my braking frontward more.

Spray them with alcohol and wipe them with a clean rag. It should go away. Sounds like it’s time for new pads

If you hammer rotors this hard you should get a vernier caliper and learn to read it.

It does look worn, but the real test is to measure the thickness. It needs to have a minimum thickness of 1.5mm. If it’s thicker than that and you’re not having any issues, should be fine.

1.5 is the dead line, 1.6 to 1.7 is fine to use, the brand new one is just 1.75.
Just clean the pads after 1k riding or every one or two month.
