I have an old custom frame steel 1 1/8 straight tube. Have a fox talas 29 on it now. It needs to be serviced. Should I a)attempt self service b)send it to fox for $200 c) buy this fork for $139 d) just put the bikepacking rigid steel fork back on

These forks work but he seals have to be replaced with quality parts.
Heavy garbage
If you’ve never rebuilt a TALAS air spring before, it’s about the last thing I’d recommend someone try without a bunch of special Fox or approximate tools.
