Sir Mark Cavendish, The Greatest Sprinter, Comments On Biniam’s Girmay Tour De France 2024 Stage 3 Victory, “That’s just massive. Cycling is massive in Eritrea. It’s super good for him and for African cycling. He’s a legend, isn’t he?”
Sir Mark Simon Cavendish (born 21 May 1985) is a professional road racing cycling sprinter who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Astana Qazaqstan Team. He is considered one of the greatest road sprinters of all times. Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck-QuickStep) took his fourth victory of the 2021 Tour de France on stage 13 in Carcassonne, securing his 34th career victory at the race and moving onto equal terms with Eddy Merckx’s all-time stage win record.
Biniam Girmay Hailu is 24 years old Eritrean professional road cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Intermarché–Wanty. At the 2022 Giro d’Italia, he became the first black African cyclist to win a Grand Tour stage after winning stage 10 and in 2024 he won Stage 3 of the Tour de France, which made him to become the first black African cyclist to win a Tour de France stage.

Mark chances ruined by that crash um in the last 3 kilometers yeah we’re the only one just looking to stay up right I was like seeing it Happ you can hear it and I’m too little to see what’s going on so I hear it like and hear people closer like in front of me going you’re like fully on and now it’s not about thinking you’re going to hit just waiting for someone to hit you from behind so I’m on skid and know just waiting to get hit from behind but lucky we didn’t we kind of got through but way off then we’re 2 and 1/2k to go this year out of it so just lucky everyone I think everyone’s okay I seen jasar but I think nobody’s seriously here oh that’s good that’s that’s the main thing we saw you changing wheels and I think there was a bike change as well and how have you felt earlier in the day and how did you feel coming into those last few kilometers um didn’t feel bad like uh I don’t think anyone felt great today you know uh yeah man I’m always I’ve always been fidgety haven’t I you know I like change different stuff and that you know I’m not changing my cleats for once in my life and uh so it’s okay a stage win for bam gay it’s a big day for the toour of France historic story um is he the first erran stage winner Daniel won out had the point sh in them days oh that’s brilliant isn’t it such a massive like this race is so Mass cycl massive in that’s super good super good for him afrian cycl like he’s a legend is he very nice very very nice

He should have retired long ago instead of relying on stacked competition and the pity of real cyclists to gift him wins for a hollow victory. Deep down he'll always know they are as good a result as Armstrong's TDF wins.

  2. What a classy man! Wonderful to see him evolve into cycling’s elder statesman. Even better to see how all the cyclists (including Bini) were lining up to congratulate him and pay their respects after his stage win. A true peloton don!
