  1. Nothing to do with the rim. You need a new nipple, and chances are your spokes are loose.

Obviously the nipples seem to be the weakest link in this set.

You can replace the broken nipple.
    Your rim is fine.
After all check your spokes for proper tension.

The rim is fine, just needs a new nipple. However, you are likely to see more of these fail over time.

When the base of a nipple breaks, it is usually from fatigue and not being supported by the spoke. Aluminum alloy nipples are also more prone to this than brass. Chances are, the spokes are slightly too short and your nipples are breaking because the base of the nipple is unsupported and over time can result in fatigue.

Replacing all the nipples with brass will extend the life of this wheelset but given the time and effort to do so, you may be better off replacing them as they fail until you get tired of it, or purchasing a new wheel.

New nipples for everyone. They are corroding and will continue to break as individuals are replaced

If your going to rebuild, tap the threads to clean them up before you fire in the new nipple, dear love of got make sure you are using the right sized tap, or you may as well throw it out n buy a new rim.

Totally fine – I had this the other day and just replaced the nipple and had an amateur’s go at re-tensioning the wheel…maybe not as good as new but as good as it was before the nipple snapped!
