Sorry for two posts in the same day, but I’m narrowing down my options as I look at older peugeots, and some of it is kind of out of my wheelhouse. Does this bubble look like it’s probably some sort of rust that’s going to require me to scrap the fork? It’s from a px10 frameset I’m looking at right now, but it would be an online purchase, so I’d be rolling the dice.

  1. That’s sloppy craftsmen-ship, not rust.

More likely it’s poor quality 1970s mass produced bike boom sloppiness.
If it were to be a car yes, it’s the sign of hidden rust. But bikes aren’t usually exposed to the same kind of conditions.

Typical 1970’s French quality control (or lack of it). Has survived over 40 years with this, should be fine, nothing to worry about.

Now… the French parts, cottered crankset, plastic Symplex derailleur set, etc is a whole other discussion.

Unless you are committed to French bikes from that era I would stay away from it.

If you are looking for a basic vehicle getting you from a to b in town this bike will be fine. It will however probably need new consumables (tires, tubes, cables, grease, etc) to make it work as designed.

If you want some classic eye candy this one ain’t it.

Feel free to hit me up with a pm if you need help / advise on older bikes.

My other tip is to spend time on bikeforums.net to learn about vintage bikes.

    Good luck!
