You are so close to being in “shopping trolley” mode, but you need a Brompton bag (or compatible) on the luggage block – which you already have. Also no more sweaty back, and your Brompton carries all the weight – as close as you can get to effortless.

Many years ago, I used the open basket and wheeled it through Lidl. They were no problems as I am respectful. Although, I think many are more suspicious nowadays.

I typically ask security if I can leave it with them, they are usually Ok but on the understanding that they aren’t liable if it gets nicked. Normally isn’t an issue but there have been changes near my local Sainsbury’s store as very expensive, obnoxious high rises have come in and the wealth gap is palpable so they are having more thefts and I don’t do that anymore.

However, a guard at another Sainsbury’s branch basically told me to put it in a trolley, that felt weird as it was one of the shallow ones, but it worked.

There’s usually a way, If default for the trolley in the Brompton basket  just basically wheel that around semi-folded, or leave it with security.

  3. I put the seat down but have it raised a teeny bit so it doesn’t catch & drag. Handlebars up to steer with my open Borough bag on the block open as the basket, or if there’s too much stuff in there already (still room but looks potentially shop-lifty mixing unpaid merch in) I put a hand cart on top just holding the sides to the bars. Obviously you can’t go nuts with the amount or weight but for the usual “pick up a couple of items” use it’s fine. I’ll even carry under my arm bulk toilet paper or paper towels and attach that to the rear rack bungee after checking out and unfolding the bike.

If I’m set out to do a big shopping trip on the bike, I bring the rack bag, clear out most items from the borough bag, and my backpack. I’ll fold the bike, put in an ikea Dimpa bag, put it in a regular shopping cart, load up keeping in mind how much space I have to carry home.

  4. I fold up the bike and put it in the shopping trolley/cart , its by far the easiest way
