For those with a Santa Cruz 5010 what rear shock do you run?

I have an XS & am contemplating which shock to upgrade to but fit is concerning. My Fox Float DPS has served me well for the past 9 months of learning to how to ride but I need something with more volume until I order a new bike with more travel this fall.
After rebuilding twice & still maxing it out every ride, it’s time to upgrade. Didn’t think i’d progress this much so haven’t thought about upgrading the shock until now. I’ve only seen stock shocks so if you ride a 5010… and ride DH/Park on your trail like bike I do… let me know what fits your frame & why you like your shock!

Enjoy your ride 🫶🏻

Rockshox super deluxe ultimate. I run 3 spacers. There was a site having heavy discounts on these but I can’t remember the name (owned by the coloradocyclist people)

There’s a cascade components link that allows you to run 140mm rear as well, but that’ll obviously change the geo.

No matter what shock you go with… 130-140 is still pretty low for park riding even with lots of spacers and compression.

  2. I went through a similar issue a couple years ago, had a trail bike and was riding a ton of trestle.

I noticed that my shock would do well for the first run or two and then it wouldn’t work as well and my legs would tire out. My second half of the day would suck.

I ended up upgrading to a shock with an expansion chamber. It got a lot more mileage out of the shock before overheating became an issue. That being said, I’ve got a nomad now and it rips. No more worries about shocks or adjusting my rebound throughout the day.

I have a dhx on mine, got tired of rebuilding the stock one. Was a huge improvement in not packing into the travel and carried more speed over rough rooty/rocky trail.

Still has lockout capability but I never use it climbing. Shorter stroke smaller shock so you need to get pretty high spring rate coils for it. I went with 750 and 800lb as I’m 200lbs
