  1. Changing pedals is such a pain in the ass, I don’t know why you’d bother. I’d pick one and stick to it. Maybe get some velosambas (if you can) and just rock the SPD pedals

  2. Not at all actually. I ride straps, on whatever. Currently one fixed gear is on decent BMX pedals and straps. My other fixed gear, which gets way more miles has straps and Amazon MZYRH “three bearing” pedals. They probably don’t have another winter in them. I destroy a set every 8-12 months. I used to buy good ones, and try to fix them. It’s not worth it. Inevitably one will get grindy, or loose when the bearings explode.

I swap pedals pretty frequently. It only takes a few seconds. I’m surprised to see people say it’s a pain in the ass. I swap between SPDs and Deity flats. I like Deity black cats because they’re so thin.

I usually have clipless on, but sometimes I know I’m going to want to wear something other than velosambas for a while so I’ll swap back to flats+straps. Velosambas are awesome, but I spend even more time running the kids around in summer and they don’t make for the best playground shoes, so the flats go on.

  4. I have more than one bike but honestly I now love the clipless and was thinking to put some on other bikes. Wear velosambas and Adidas just dropped the Velo Smiths so can be casual as fuck always

  5. Of course, I mean ynot. Depending on the adventure, and if I want to clop around a bunch

i only ride straps – the bicycle is an extension of me, not the other way around – as riding is the only way i’m mobile. i go through about two pairs of chucks a year, i have winter chucks that have lasted forever but i have a love/hate. i really don’t think – i just put on shoes and go. that’s why i love straps. and ynot straps 4 life… legit, the only reason i’ve thrown ynot straps were for aesthetic reasons… the leather ones did their best but weren’t looking their best after a few winters (my bad) but were very very comfortable compared to the condura which i use now on all my bikes.

edit: i’m actually still riding my OG ynot straps from 2014 on one of my bikes, i love those ones so much – same gen as yours with the old logo, very nice

Nah, I wear my clipless shoes like 99% of the year. Pretty much the only time I wear my backup pair of sneakers is going through TSA. I pay for PreCheck, I’m gonna keep my shoes on lol.

  8. Look at the Velorange Sabot Pedals, they have been the best pedal I’ve owned combined with pedal straps. They are wide, flat and they are great looking as well.

I had toe cage pedal. now switching to open flat pedal, feels like im detached to the bike not having full control. Anything to connect feet with bike really helped in overall control and balance

  10. I’m at the point where I have bikes for different things with different types of pedals.

Flats for commuters or around the town bikes, clipless for longer ride or roadie/gravel bikes.

When I had just one bike using it for short and long distance, I did change our pedals for long distance on the weekends, and commuting on the weekdays.

There’s a company called FlatBike that makes a hot-swappable pedal setup. They sell SPD pedals, MTB flats, and like a hybrid flat pedal. They’re pretty sweet, but expensive. But if this is a big convenience pain-point for you, totally worth it.

I did for a while but the fact is I just don’t like flats. I feel so much better clipped in.
