I’d be completely new to road bikes. Seller mentioned there is a ding on the body which is photographed. Doesn’t seem major to me. I am hoping to buy a used one before spending thousands on a brand new one. I came across this one for sell near me and am wondering if this would be a good deal? $500 for the 2017 Cannondale CaadX

  1. How are you planning to use this bike?

It’s got a single chainring paired to a rather small range cassette. This makes it ideal for cyclocross racing, but you may not have the gearing range you’d like to use this as a road bike.

  2. I think rhats a steel so long as it fits. My only trepidation are the qr wheels with disc brakes, which you can’t change (I assume it’s qr I can’t tell from the pics). I have a superX from the early hydro disc years and the disc rub drives me nuts

  3. Also, I ride a 1x (42×11-36) around hilly ass Pittsburgh and unless I’m attempting one of the dirty dozen it’s suitable.

  4. I really enjoyed my CAAD7. I think this is a decent price and a good starting point for you. My CAAD7 had a decent sized ding in the top tube and it never was an issue.

  5. As others have said, the gearing makes it a pass for me. Nice bike, but it’s a buyers market and you can get something with a wider gear range.

  6. It looks like it already has the top tube dent that all CAADs get.

Personally I would never buy a bike with a dented top tube – but everyone I know who owns a CAAD has a dented top tube; I swear they’re made out of coke cans.
