Hi all! I'm very new to cycling and this'll be my first gravel bike, so apologies if these are some beginner worries.

I'm looking at this Grizl on the outlet store, listed as having 'Moderate signs of wear' (meaning either showroom or press use, by their definition), but I can't really tell what I'm looking at here and would really appreciate some help!

The frame itself looks good to me, but I can see that some of the components are pretty scuffed up. I'm just not sure if it's the type of scuffed up I'd get anyway from a couple months of regular riding or the type where it'll turn into an expensive headache where I need to switch parts out right after I get it.

I'm particularly worried about the look of that metal plate on the frame, next to the crank.

Obviously might be hard to tell the condition from the photos anyway, but I'll take whatever advice I can get.

(Note that it's a €310 discount, but frankly I'm also drawn to the Matcha Splash color, since they don't sell that new in Europe anymore.)

Thank you!

  1. There isn’t a ton of wear but where the wear is (lol) has me a little concerned. Something about the crankset having all those dings and scratches relative to the rest of the overall condition is a bit odd. But what I’m really looking at is the area for the pedal threads, what appears to me that this bike has had a LOT of pedals on and off. Could be wrong, and even if I’m correct those threads could still be fine. That plus the very strange wear on the outside of the rear thru axle release lever thingy makes me think there were some abnormal conditions this bike was subjected to. Also having a used drivetrain while hard to determine how used would make me pass for a new bike.
