It’s a 2020 Haro freestyler 24” with skyway tuff mags and Maxxis hookworm tires.
Current gearing is 39/16

I assume changing my sprocket and free wheel sizes could help, but not sure where to start. My commute is just over three miles, and is a pretty solid workout if I want to make it in ~16 minutes. Feel like the obvious answer is to keep this as a cruiser and get a bike with multiple gears to commute with, but thought I’d at least see what y’all had to say.
Cheers!

That’s a slow 3 miles. Sounds like a more suitable bike would help you.
Getting literally any other bike other than bmx will make a huge improvement in your commute. Bigger wheels are what you need.
A hub motor or a bigger bike…
Holy! They still make those Haro masters! I wanted one of those so bad when I was a kid in the 80’s. I had a Haro Group 1 Rs1 86 that I bought used and rode for years. Cool!
Lights. It’s not good to commute in the dark.
Used to dream about having this color haro master. Matching green mags too
Get a super tall seatpost and tall handlebars, so you can get a better let extension. But at that point, just take the money and get a different bike
Go to circlejerk, bro.
Cyc photon motor and saddle bag battery.
