in the fall of 2012 California woman Amanda Riley announced on social media that she had stage for metastatic cancer around that time she launched a personal blog called lyonia can suck it where she would go on to document her battle with the illness rightly claimed to have been diagnosed with Hodgkins lyona in June of 2012 adding that after a brief remission her cancer had come back with a vengeance through the blog as well as media pages on Twitter Instagram and Facebook Riley asked for donations to help with treatment over roughly 7 years she received more than $5,500 across 349 donations from individuals and entities including friends her church a CrossFit fundraiser Raffles various sales and eBay auctions in 2019 it emerged Riley had never been sick and that she pocketed all the donations an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service for found no cancer related spending in her records and that the money went to her personal account to be used for living expensive scamander as Riley came to be known resorted to various tricks to increase the credibility of her claims she shaved her head falsified medical documents forged doctor’s notes and certificates the so story even fooled Riley’s husband and children who stood by her and genuinely believed she was fighting a terminal illness Riley was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in the fall of 2021 1 the following year the 37-year-old was sentenced to 5 years in prison in order to pay restitution to everyone she scammed number seven Mary Hunt following a 2-year relationship Florida man Scott Mitchell and his fiance Mary Hunt broke up in the summer of 2015 shortly before they were due to get married as reported by Mitchell who is the millionaire CEO of Salon Products Company Simply Organic he paid for everything in the relationship including Hunt’s mortgage credit card debt and health insurance in the wake of their separation the couple traded accusations 45-year-old Mitchell claimed that hunt knew the combination to his safe and that she’d stolen over $2 million worth of jewelry from it including 99 diamond necklaces 147 gold rings and 172 lose diamonds Mitchell Su hunt and her parents Linda and Michael whom he reported were involved in the theft and shipping the valuables via UPS Mitchell provided the authorities with a recording of Michael drunkenly calling him after an UPS package had been delivered to his home in Pirates Point Virginia the man told him these are bracelets these are diamonds they’re everything hunt was arrested for grand theft but claimed that her ex was setting her up because he was bitter about the breakup for her part but 29-year-old hunt would claim that Mitchell was physically abusive towards her and shared cell phone footage of him kicking her out of his Florida mansion the clip would show him throwing in her clothes some of which he ripped up outside the home but he was at no point seen hitting hunt as she released the footage the woman shared a photo in which she had a black eye claiming that her ex fiance had inflicted it however Mitchell’s home surveillance had captured hunt having a melt down during one of their fights and screaming while repeatedly delivering open Palm strikes to her face with both hands Mitchell’s lawyers would point to the clip as evidence that her abused claims were manufactured ultimately the theft charges against hunt were dropped by pella’s County Prosecutors as they deemed the evidence didn’t definitively tie her to the crime while Mitchell’s lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount number six Matthew McNamara leading up to the spring of 2019 English man Matthew McNamara aged 43 spent most of his days on holderness Road in the Hull City Center begging for money he appeared to be homeless as he was usually covered in a blanket or a sleeping bag and often drunk on lambrini local police reported that magnamar prayed on the sympathies of Shoppers it was revealed that he actually lived in a terrorist property and only pretended to be homeless primarily for alcohol money he was often intoxicated while putting on the ACT which led to him being aggressive and attended the meeting and resigned subsequent audit revealed that two former employees had had time sheets submitted with money sent to McCarthy’s accounts and that she’d carried out 20 fraudulent transactions when McCarthy was interviewed by the police in February of 2020 she confessed and claimed to have been pressured to carry out the scheme by a former partner the woman said she’d given him some of the pilford funds and used the rest on drugs and alcohol in November McCarthy made a tearful plea for mercy in Manchester Crown Court claiming she’d recently had a baby and that she hadn’t told told anyone about it because she was suffering from post-natal depression the 33-year-old sobbed and thanked judge Paul Lon as he agreed to give her a suspended sentence McCarthy was supposed to produce a birth certificate but never did and suspicions arose whether the child actually existed she was questioned at her Liverpool home and ordered back to court McCarthy eventually broke down admitted that there was no baby claiming that a fit of panic had led to her concocting the story judge laon sternly condemned her lies telling woman I told you I would take you at your word as I could not imagine anyone in your position could be quite so brazenly dishonest you went on to say that McCarthy knew he would only separate her and the child as a last result adding how you thought you would not be found out is beyond me McCarthy’s original 8-month suspended sentence was activated in January of 2021 the judge revealed that she was a persistent fraudster who’ resigned before she was discovered by her employees in order to keep her resume intact so that she’d be able to find work at another recruitment agency she’d also kept her past conviction secret from her most recent employer McCarthy had been given a suspended sentence after stealing from an employer in Wellingborough northamptonshire in 2011 and in 2017 she was jailed for 12 weeks for stealing £4,800 from a Belvoir sales and lettings agency in West Derby number for Margaret Sweeney in August of 2023 the Department of Social Services received messages indicating that North Carolina woman Margaret Sweeney had been murdered a friend of 37-year-old Sweeney also received a message alleging that she’d been beaten to death with a tie iron Sweeney was reported missing on August the 18th with the Franklin Police Department issuing an alert that provided the public with photos and details about her age hair color eye color and height the casee only lasted for a few days before Sweeney was found unharmed upon investigating the matter further the authorities discovered that the woman had used an app to conceal her identity and that she’d actually sent the messages regarding her murder the reason for having done so remained unclear but the police charged her with multiple crimes for wasting time and resources that could have been directed towards actual emergencies for faking her own death Sweeney was charged with false reporting to a police station using a phone to falsely report a death or serious in injury and obstructing police number three Madison Russo during a year-long nationwide scheme a young woman from Iowa raed in a small fortune by pretending she had pancreatic cancer leukemia and a football-sized tumor wrapped around her spine her lives were ultimately discovered by the authorities and she was arrested in January of 2023 teenager Madison Russo had posted about her condition on social media and over 400 people sent her donations amounting to nearly $40,000 to add to the sub story’s credibility Russo shared photos taken from the media pages of actual cancer sufferers as she made tens of thousands of dollars through the scam Russo maintained a part-time job at John Deere had a 4.0 GPA and got a full ride scholarship to St Ambrose University donations came in from businesses School districts and colleges as well as local and National Cancer foundations while acting under false pretenses Russo was a guest speaker for the national Pancreatic Cancer Foundation project purple and St Ambrose University an anonymous witness with medical experience alerted the Eldridge Police Department to discrepancies in Russo’s social media presence a subpoena for her medical records revealed that she’d never been diagnosed with any of the condition she’ posted about after she was arrested in January of 2023 Russo pleaded guilty to First deegree theft in June during The Plea heing she sobbed and apologized to her victims and the court Russo maintained that she’d invented the cancer story as a way of forcing her troubled family to get along stating I didn’t do this for money or greed I didn’t do this for attention I did this as an attempt to get my family back together in the fall of 2023 she was given a 10year suspended sentence an order to pay $39,000 in restitution and a fine of $1,370 in addition to performing 100 hours of community service the Scott County prosecutor had argued against prison time taking several factors into account including Russo’s good grades in college her lack of a criminal background and the low likelihood of her re offending the decision displeased run miles who ran a Pancreatic Cancer Foundation in Nashville Tennessee the organization had donated to help Russo’s madeup cancer battle in miles was frustrated with bat pretended to be homeless and was by all accounts convincing due to the way he sat and acted the 34-year-old would lay in doorways in the Maidstone town center and as reported by Town Center manager Bill Moss received huge sums of money from local people upon being into interviewed by the media bat’s neighbors reported that he didn’t look like he needed to beg for money and proposed that laziness was the primary factor driving his behavior bat was convicted of begging in August and September of 2013 but faced no significant punishment for his third offense he was fined £35 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a 20 victim search charge Moss felt that the fine was too low as bat was likely to scr up the money to cover it in a few short hours on the street on the evening of June the 11th of 2021 Canadian woman Nicole or was outside her home in Nolan Hill Calgary with her two daughters she bent over to push her youngest on a bicycle and suddenly felt a sharp pain after something had grabbed and was pulling on her leg or turned around and realized that a coyote had bitten into her thigh the attack which was captured on CCTV only lasted a few seconds leaving all with ripped up leggings and puncture marks she spent the night in the hospital receiving treatment that involved tetanus and rabies immunizations or subsequently spoke to a media outlet and recounted that she’d never heard the coyote which experts deemed unusually bold and aggressive sneaking up on her she tried to slap and kick it away before it fled or added that the situation could have been worse had the animal targeted one of her children but also noted that hers wasn’t an isolated incident in the past weeks another woman had been bitten by a coyote and needed treatment while dozens of Nolan Hill residents had reportedly approached the city with reports of coyote sightings officials decided that the coyote responsible for the attack on or would be tracked and put down teams of contractors were sent to the neighborhood with the purpose of hazing the animals through loud noises and other unpleasant experiences meant to reintroduce their natural fear of humans number seven Don sanginario an elderly woman from Lancaster Massachusetts became the victim of a vicious raccoon attack that left her fearing for her life in early December of 2021 Donna sanguinario age 70 was putting up Christmas decorations outside her home on the first of the month she heard noises from the streets and upon checking the source of the commotion came within feet of a large raccoon sanginario didn’t have time to react as it charged her and started tearing into her arms while she was actively being molded sanginario was able to put the raccoon in a headlock the senior citizen later reported that she could hear bones breaking in its neck before she released her grip and the animal fled the ordeal had lasted several minutes and sanginario remembered thinking she was going to die she uploaded photos of her Cuts bruises and bite marks to Facebook describing the experiences the worst nightmare of her life she estimated that the raccoon weighed about £45 and the authorities launched a search but were unable to find and test it for diseases in the immediate aftermath sanginario was treated for injuries and put on a course of rabies vaccine shots according to the Centers for Disease Control and prevention raccoons joined skunks bats and foxes as the main Wildlife carriers of the rabies virus in the US in case of bites from an infected animal the victim must get vaccinated as soon as possible to prevent the virus from reaching the central nervous system as reported by the wh rabies is virtually 100% fatal once that happens number six Sher Russo in the summer of 2022 a short clip began circulating on social media of a woman in Ithaca New York as she was attacked by a fox in her own Young in the surveillance footage captured on the afternoon of July the 25th Sher Russo was talking on the phone while standing on her front walk the wild animal came at her from behind and bit into her leg Russo initially thought it was her neighbor’s dog and was ready to sh it away but then looked down and saw a gray fox the 61-year-old woman kicked it multiple times in the head and body with some of the strike sending it spinning through the air nevertheless the highly aggressive Fox persisted Ed in the attack at one point it sunk its teeth into Russo’s hand and remained latched on for several seconds as the woman desperately tried to Shake It Off alerted by Russo’s screams a neighbor carrying a long stick rushed in to help her which finally prompted the fox’s Retreat the neighbor took Russo to the hospital where the 16 puncher wounds she sustained in the attack were cleaned and dressed fortunately none of them had resulted in bone or tendon damage the mother of one was then given the first of four planned rabies vaccines a tetanus shot immune globulin injections and was also prescribed a series of antibiotics while she was being treated the fox was killed and taken to a Cornell University laboratory where it tested positive for rabies Russo’s husband posted the clip of the attack to his Facebook in August calling it an educational video meant to underline that such attacks can happen to anyone number five jod nailed on a Sunday morning in June of 2018 British woman jod Ned abruptly woke up with a throbbing pain in her left bicep which she quickly found to be covered in blood the 22-year-old then saw a fox at the edge of her bed NAD kicked it off and started screaming the animal retreated and remained behind a curtain until nad’s boyfriend drove it away by throwing pillows at it he then took NAA to the Aon at King’s College Hospital where she spent two Rose von Hoffman KY a 66-year-old retired doctor from California heard thum ping sounds coming from downstairs at her family’s leg Taho cabin she initially thought that her son was responsible for the commotion but as she made her way down in the dark saw a black bear rumaging through her freezer it was only illuminated by the light from the appliance and before von Hoffman KY could Retreat the bear charged her it delivered a poor strike that nearly rendered the woman unconscious before it started ripping into her body with its claws and teeth von Hoffman KY fought back and scared the Animal by throwing a quilt and a robe on its head the woman’s husband and son were woken up by her screams and got out of their rooms at which point the bear fled von Hoffman KY suffered a bite near her left breast as well as multiple other wounds to her neck back and arms she described the injuries to her face as being the most painful but was also concerned that a puncture wound to her abdomen had ruptured her spleen it would have had severe implications as the woman was receiving chemotherapy for lymphoma at the time her family provided first aid and called 911 whereupon von Hoffman KY was rushed to the hospital she later recounted that staff had done a spectacular job of tended to her injuries before putting her on a course of antibiotics the family believed that the bear had been attracted to the smell of avocados that they’ brought with them to the cabin as they hadn’t produced trash nor eaten or done any cooking they hadn’t dead bolted the door at night which allowed the beer to push its way inside Wildlife officials planned to catch the beer by setting up traps around the cabin and collected DNA material from von Hoffman K’s wounds to ensure they have the right animal number three Timothy satti in August of 20121 hurricane Ida swept through Louisiana becoming the second most intense and damaging hurricane to have made landfall in the state the day after the storm on August the 30th Timothy sat went outside his home in Sidell and was attacked by a massive alligator that had swam into his flooded shed sat’s wife who was not named heard a splash and went outside to find her 71-year-old husband as he was being mauled by the Beast which reportedly had him in a death row by then it had already ripped one of his arms off and his wife was unable to intervene the woman didn’t have cell phone reception and left in a canoe to try and call 911 when she returned to her home the alligator and her husband were gone about 3 weeks later deputies found and killed a 12-ft alligator near their property its stomach was found to contain human remains which DNA testing confirmed as satelles using samples from from the man’s Sons number two Walter hick Florida man Walter Hickock fought off a black bear in January of 2022 after the deadly predator had made its way onto his back porch What followed was captured on security footage then shared numerous times online two of hickok’s three dash Huns intercepted the beer as it climbed over a small fence and walked onto the porch fearing for the safety of his pets Hickock immediately lowered his body and tackled the bear head on he ended up on his knees but managed to wrestle it out the door Hickock who’ kept screaming throughout the fight dragged a nearby bench to act as a barricade in the open doorway he then shouted to his wife oh my god I’ve been attacked by a beer hickok’s charge on the Beast was successful as none of his dogs were hurt but it did leave him with tooth and claw marks on his arm and back he subsequently posted pictures of the bleeding injuries to his social media prompting many users to Lord his Brave and selfless intervention in an interview he later gave for a local media Outlet hiok stated that not much was going through his mind at the time of the incident other than stopping the beer from getting to his dogs and wife number one christe and happy Wade a clip from the home surveillance of a couple in North Carolina went viral in the spring of 2021 as it showed them struggling to fend off a bobcat shortly before the feline pounced on April the 9th happy Wade was carrying a plate of brownies to his car while his wife Christy was holding a carrier with their cat the couple were about to take their pet to the vet the Bobcat let out a growl as it charged 52-year-old christe and bit into her hand before climbing on her back and over her shoulder Happ happy ran around their SUV pulled the Bobcat off his wife and then forcefully threw it across the yard the footage Ended as the man chased after it with his legally owned pistol in hand while some commenters were critical of Happy’s reaction to shoot the Bobcat the 56-year-old defended the move by saying he knew something was wrong with it aside from its unusually aggressive behavior the Bobcat was also underweight with both aspects indicating that it was suffering from disease the penda county sheriff’s department confirmed that a bobcat was killed in burgo on the same day that the attack had occurred and testin revealed that it had rabies happy and Christie had both been bitten repeatedly in the attack the couple received a total of 35 shots over the course of 14 days following their exposure to the disease with Christy reporting that the injections were almost as bad as the attack
