Just started biking. but something feels different off about gears. Without touching the shifter, there’s a click sound like chain is changing to a different gear. Am I doing something with my shifter or do I have to take it to the shop?

You are in the small cog in the front and back. This is called cross chaining. It should be avoided. Same with big-big.

If the noise is synchronous with crank rotation, look for a bent or damaged chain ring tooth. A problem with the chainring can normally be fixed with some gentle bending-back and/or a file.
If it is not synchronous with the crank rotation, a cracked chain link will make a noise like that. wipe your chain off and carefully inspect both sides of each link checking for cracks. That is probably a good regular check to perform in any case.
