    Should I buy this Trek Road Bike for $600?

      That paint is so unique that the price be damned, I would buy it regardless. Seems like the groupset was upgraded at some point anyway, and without knowing when it’s difficult to estimate.

      This is also why you should never judge the age of a bike by its components. The 5000 is 15-20 years old at this point and this has been completely rebuilt, no original components other than the fork, if you count that.

      Be weary of the risks of a low priced carbon bike with nothing original and on it. These are the ones that have a higher chance of making some weird creak, having a crack forming somewhere potentially even unknown to the owner.

      The paint is immaculate however, it just needs different bar tape.

      I’d ask him some very specific questions via email or text about the bikes condition so if there is a problem, you can refer back to it.

      This frame was high end at the time but was superceded at the end of 2007 by a more modern design.

      If it had the original groupset (which would probably have been Ultegra 6600), it might be worth 330-400 USD. With the upgraded 6800 groupset and newer wheels it has, I think 530-600 USD is fair. About 50-80 USD of that is for the nice paint.
