Hi All!
I currently have a road bike with 700x25C and Di2 50/34T chainrings. We just moved place and in my area and there’s more gravel now than road, thus I am considering a gravel bike.
Currently leaning towards Cervelo Aspero, then get two (2) sets of wheels for gravel and road (as I’m still going to visit my old buddies and do road rides with them occasionally).
Just wondering though, if anyone have an idea or tried if the Aspero will fit a 2x 50/34T chainring? It says on their website that the max is 46T – 1x.. I wonder if that changes if I use 2x.
If not, any other gravel bike suggestions that have a clearance for road groupset, 50/34T specifically?
Thank you!

I have an Aspero as my road bike, and it works fine with standard road 2x cranksets. I’m using 50-34 now; have also put 52-36 without issues.
Would more than likely need a wide crank spindle & wide front derailleur to fit. If sir velo says a 46T 1x fits, it’s with a wide spindle. If a 46T 1x fits, I’d bet a 50/34T would fit as well (assuming wide spindle & wide front derailleur). If you try to run the standard spindle & front derailleur w/ a 50/34T, you will likely have issues with crank arm and/or chainring clearance unless you do something goofy with spacers & offset Q-factor which will also offset your chainline away from optimal, where you’ll likely still have issues with rear tire clearance to the FD battery if running fatter tires.
SRAM doesn’t officially support anything besides the fugly old D1 43/30T chainring with the wide front derailleur; if you contact them, they will flat out say it won’t work (even though it does in “most” cases). If the configuration you’re wanting to run isn’t explicitly listed as compatible in SRAMs compatibility chart, their support folks will default to “It will absolutely not work & your bike will explode if you try it”. When playing outside of Sram’s listed compatibility, YMMV; however, I’ve rarely had major issues getting wierd configurations to work properly with some tweaking.
Me personally, I’d keep the road bike & add a gravel bike configured for gravel. I have 3 sets of wheels for my gravel bike, but all 3 sets use the same exact hub (DT 240EXP) & the different cassettes are shimmed to have the same exact offset. Swapping wheels is kind of a PIA unless you run the same exact hubs on each set of wheels to minimize fiddle fucking w/ brake caliper alignment & RD micro adjustments & limit screws. Even with similarish tires, I’m around 1-2 mph faster on my road bike than my gravel bike on fast road rides.
New aspero can fit a chainring larger than 50
Old aspero has a max chainring of 50
This is for 2x
I believe it’s 44/42 new/old for 1x
