I recently bought a Scott Scale 930 and I was wondering if it's possible to mount a rack on this model. The only hole in the back of the frame is the one for the axle.
Am I forced to use a saddle bag or are there compatible racks for frames like this one?

i have a Spark but i think the swing arm is aluminium so i have a rack that attaches to the seat stays, i think yours will be Carbon so its not advisable, look into the Tailfin or Old Man Mountain racks that attach to the Axle?
Would recommend minimal pack list with “bike packing bags” that attach with straps. If you feel the need to bring way more stuff it’s probably better to get a trailer that attaches to your through axle or perhaps a different bike with the ability to have racks & panniers front & back like a Surly LHT, Troll, Ogre or similar. A properly installed through axle rack should be alright and not result in any damage, just be sure it’s installed right & not overloaded.
Even with a bike capable of carrying a ton of gear, I would recommend you pair down to a minimum of stuff to make the on bike time WAAAY more enjoyable. Off bike comfort requires much less than most people think.
Specialized makes/made(?) a thru axle that’s threaded for bike racks. It would in theory allow any rack that has enough width and tire clearance since the thru axle is lower than traditional rack eyelets.
I’ve done a bunch of single track bikepacking on a hardtail using the SKS Universal rack. There are others with the same mounting (probably better) but it’s held up strong for me with a 30L drybag’+some loose kit.. about 10kg all n all (rack limit is 12kg)
Set up:
1- Clothes, sleeping gear, cooking kit, freeze-dried food in a 30-40l drybag on the back rack.
(Also strap a tarp and a rain jacket on the bag for a quick reach)
2- My tent and a chair in a handlebar cradle
3- 2L Water bladder and some tech + necessities in a frame bag.
4- Gloves, shades, tools in 1l top tube bag close to the saddle.
5- Snacks in 1l top tube bag close to the handlebar.
No fork bags or panniers to snag on branches and no wiggling seat pack to annoy me while tackling roots and rocks..
Rack+drybag is the winning off-road rig for me.
