Was driving around and saw this late 80s(?) Marin pine mountain in the trash pile with a bunch of kids bikes. Told myself no, turned around after 2 blocks bc I needed those handlebars lol. Anyone know anything about this like what exact year, link to a catalog, or what these brakes are?
Wheels are double wall Alex rims with a 8 speed cassette hub that spins surprisingly well considering how rusty everything around it is. Brakes also work well and spring back freely despite the condition of the bike.
Have no idea what I’m going to do with it but I need to take a spin with that handlebar before it moves on.

Sick bike! Unrelated, but anyone know names for that kind of bar tape? I want it, exactly those colours, and I just simply can’t come up with the right wording for it. “marbled” doesn’t seem to give the right results. Either that or the one with flecks of other colours in a base colour. Any that I have found have been black and white (and had no special name, just found through scrolling bar tape categories)

This way you’ll get detailed information on what’s needed to restore the bike. From personal experience on this forum…..it’s more like comedy central. Just saying, not judging. But the comments sometimes….(rolls eyes)
Awesome find. Might be a ’90 or ’91 Pine? The “Team” decals are not original. Brakes look like Marin lite cantis. I never had them, but if they’re anything like the Kona lites, they’re beautiful, light, and crappy.
Pines are great bikes, because although they don’t have the ultralight frames of the Team and Team Issue, they’re a bit more relaxed with shorter top tubes, but still come with top tubing. Bonus are the original forks and bottle cages.
Figure out a good cockpit (og stem and swept back bars or shorter stem and upright bars) and this can become a mean, lean, gravel machine.
All this paint job is missing is pink splatter.
I don’t know what they are but I want those brakes! Looks like something that Paul’s stole the idea off of. OP don’t pitch them for sure. Clean them up and sell them if nothing else.
That is a beauty, some cool components on there. Well worthy of a resto. Hope nothing on the frame is too far gone.
I bought this exact same bike new, in March 1990. Took it to Germany and Greece later that summer and had somebody ask to buy it from me pretty much every day. I always thought it was a 1990 model, given when I purchased it.
I still have it, and can confirm that it came stock with a Deore DX groupset, Araya RM-17 rims with Deore DX hubs. Paint is now less than stellar and been wondering how to restore it to its original glory.
