    Looking for advice on DIY track hoods


    Cutoff part of the lever from an old hood, put it back on upside down, used an old tube to fill the spaces my hand needed.

    Looks like absolute dogshit, but I'm just putting together what's been going around in my head. Honestly feels okay — not too far away in shape to the Tektro on the other side. Think it would clean up after some bar tape hides this monstrosity. Plan
    is to have two dummy hoods, and a cross lever close to the stem. Hoods feel great, but I don't want a dead lever.

    I guess I'm asking:

    Anyone out there do similar? Did you end up sticking with them? Any tips, pointers or ideas you had while setting your own up?

    Anyone just give in and buy track hoods? Which ones did you get, and did you do anything to them to "make them fit"? I've seen some 3D printed ones on Etsy, and might just get those to save myself some headaches/jankiness in the build.

      Probably just go for 3d printed ones (I’m assuming they use the metal hardware to fix it to the bars).
      Even 3d printed feel a little sketch to me – would not like the hood to break off while I’m putting all my weight through it.

      Why not just buy the cheapest pair of road bike levers you can find, and then whip out the grinder and remove the levers?

      Do you use your drops? If not, I’ve found bullhorns with raised ends suffice. You can get them for like $20 and they look much better than the alternatives

      OP I have a left side Microshift Advent X hood/lever you can have if you cover shipping. I crashed and broke the right side lever then upgraded to a nicer set so the left lever is just chilling in my parts bin.

      I’ve done this before with moustache bars, to give me more hand positions. Put it on the right way. Keep the hood on it (if you have one). Wrap with bar tape. It’ll look much better, it’ll feel like an actual brake horn, and you’ll get good use from it.

      Could buy the cheapest brake levers/shifters off of aliexpress/amazon and modify them as you like?
