With this bike I wanted to, let me say, pay a homage to alloy using some of the most iconic components such as Thomson (seatpost), Ritchey (stem and handlebar), Spinergy (so iconic on Cipollini Caad4) and most of all the best good looking crankset ever, DA 7800. However my legs suck so I went 1x 39t using a road link and 11-40 in the back. Now the question is: do I remove the outer chainring or do I keep it for aesthetic / chain guard?

I mean, that just looks like you forgot to shift before removing your FD
With that big range cassette in the back, I would remove the small ring and just run the big one.
