A partially-sighted and disabled pedestrian has been jailed for three years over the death of a cyclist she shouted at to get off the pavement.

Auriol Grey, 49, gestured in a “hostile and aggressive way” towards retired midwife Celia Ward, 77, a court heard.

CCTV footage recorded Ms Grey shouting “get off the f—–g pavement” moments before Mrs Ward wobbled into the road and into the path of a VW Passat.

Mrs Ward was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident on Oct 20 2020 in Huntingdon, Cambs.

Grey, who was described as “childlike”, was convicted of manslaughter last week and appeared before Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday for sentencing.

The court had previously heard that police inquiries had failed to establish whether the pavement was a shared cycle-way or not.

  1. It can be dangerous, when people promote themselves to police enforcers..
It happens a lot in traffic, but it's the first time I heard of a pedestrian killing a bike rider

  2. the council and the police have said there is no cycle lane on this pavement so why was she on it riding towards a lady that has spina bifida and sight problems oriel needs help not imprisonment by a uneducated judge that does not understand mental health and disibility issues thats the pethetic law system we live in it caters for the ciminal element instead of the vunrable.

  3. Yeah, I think she pushed her but I'm not seeing the actual contact… so how can they be expected to prove in court that she actually did push her?

  4. If this woman is not prosecuted for manslaughter it would be a horrible injustice to the girl whose life was lost

  5. A women about to be 50 but looks alot older shouting at a women who cycling in her 70s come on man, tragic tragic story that women shouldn't have died that day she was probably gonna live to be in her 100s if she's cycling at 70s

  6. Fat slapper hope she gets long sentence.Sick of the British culture of foul angry loudmouths , see it on the roads , pubs , restaurants, and anywhere Brits go abroad. Hope the foul slapper gets whats coming.

  7. I'm a cyclist and I know it is not legal to cycle on the footpath. Having said that , the lady cycling was not being aggressive towards the pedestrian and was at the edge of the path, out of her way.Common sense must be exercised in such cases. If there was a push , then that is inexcusable .

  8. Pavements are for people not for traffic.

Tbh the geriatric cyclist won a well deserved darwin award.

    Remeber folks..

    people-on-pavements
    Traffic-on- roads

  9. She definitely either pushed her or reached so far out that the cyclist lost their balance. Anyone with an IQ above 30 can see that which is probably why she wasn't prosecuted by the CPS for manslaughter.

  10. Si la cycliste avait été dès le début sur la route, elle serait surement en vie… cyclistes, vous n'avez rien a foutre sur les trottoirs… pour ma part, je l'aurai aussi invitée a utiliser la route…
