I'm flying domestic on Alaska Airlines for a trip. I'm going to pack and check my bike. My plan is to use the plastic mattress bag strategy, which I've done once before without issue. I watched this video and plan to emulate it: https://youtu.be/Lau1L3RAjSU?si=OHNauGK-RqwN7iUW
My question is, is it really feasible to leave the wheels on the bike like he does? Will I get called out for that? I think it's probably great for the bike but I'm not sure if the total size is going to be a problem.

  1. No idea. But I use BikeFlights to and from Alaska with no issues. I wouldn’t feel comfortable checking one unless it was in a hardcase.

    Checking one is definitely cheaper.
