The idea of a 69er Mullet build based on a step-through frame has been circling around in my head since the #cheapbikebuildoff last winter. I had a threaded cro-mo trekking fork that I found thrown in a ditch during a ride a couple of years ago…it was just laying around in my boxes, but when this white Scott Montana came up for sale locally it looked like a potential fit for a 69er build. It turned out to have exactly the same length steerer and the transplant into the Scott was a breeze. I was happy to see a 2.1 inch wide MTB tire fit in there, which then made it a true 69er.

After trying out a few cockpit options I went for drops, this helped to visually balance out the larger front tire. Driveline is 2×10 using Dura-Ace barend shifter, the chainrings are 46/24 with a rather tight 10-speed cassette (11-25) — mostly because I wanted to try this out and was fed up with 1x-builds. Now I just need to order a chain and take it for a ride this weekend. All in all, a really fun build!
