Ok, I am toying with what I would like to spend some cake day money on, and what better way to do that than to ask the internet? Lets make a game of it.
About me:
- Tall and heavy (6 ft 2 in, 240 lbs)
- Mostly ride trail, some enduro, generally beginner/intermediate drops/jumps/etc.
- I'm a life long cyclyist, and not risk adverse, but carefull
I have a Vitus Mythique 29 VRX that is OEM stock except the following:
- Maxxis Dissectors DD sidewalls front and back
- Spank Trail rims with DT Swiss hubs (350 in the back)
- Raceface Chester pedals
- Smith MIPS Helmet (not full face)
- Giro gloves, showing their age
- Cheap amazon knee pads
- Adidas Five Ten shoes
- Wayfinder Brewery (Portland, OR) sticker 😉
The Game
If you had $300 USD to spend, what do you think amounts to the best value upgrade path for my setup? How about your current setup?
Some rules to make it more interesting:
- No n+1. Money must apply to the current setup
- Stickers and merch/swag are allowable, especially if it makes you faster :🚵♀️💨
- Pretty much anything else is fair game
edit: Mods, not sure if WhichBike flair is appropriate, but just in case: I ride in Central Texas and I love my current bike. All other whichbike info is in the original post. Fixed URL
edit 2: added shoes to the list

Do you have proper shoes to match the pedals?
If you’re having trouble thinking of gear to buy with $300, then maybe treat yourself to an experience for $300. If you’re into downhill riding, then maybe a bike park road trip could be a fun idea.
If you don’t have a good pair of knee pads, I swear by these. Only ones I’ve found that stay on and stay comfortable. Easy to take off / put on too!

Spandex and Chamois cream…. oh shit, this isn’t the roady sub.
Coaching. Upgrade your skills rather than your bike.
