  1. Is it a safety washer to help keep your wheel on the bike, slotting into the curved hole just next to the bent prongs on it?

    First off, you are not going to be able to tighten down that Acorn Nut. replace that with a Flange Nut.

    Second, the orange thing is to lock the axle bolt from spinning, that’s why the axle bolt has a flat side and the tab fits into the dropout.

  3. Yes it’s supposed to sit in the drop out. Loosen nut on the other side and you should be able to rotate the axle just enough to get the yellow guy in there. It’s an anti rotation washer. The hub has 3 internal gears which pushes against the axle. Without that yellow piece, the axle would spin under load
