Hey all, I’m not sure if this question belongs in this sub, but I recently was given my dad’s old bike. I took it to a local bike shop and they tuned it up and everything- didn’t say much about it, but it is a pretty old bike (25+ years). After riding it a few times I noticed the back wheel would make a squeaking rubber type sound. A few days later, I came back to it and realized that it was flat. I pump it and it goes flat shortly after. I am totally not knowledgeable about biking things and was wondering if there could be any reason that the wheel could be flat other than it having a hole or cut in it somewhere? The valve on the flat tire is different than the front tire and I have not really seen the type before (photo attached). Could it be potentially be a problem with that? Or do I probably just need a new tire? Like I said, it really is an old bike and I have no clue when the tires were last (if ever) changed- I just assumed if that were to be the problem, the mechanic would have brought it up. I have no problem taking it back to the bike store, but was just wondering before I take it back so few days after the last time. I appreciate all advice and info!

You need a new tire and tube. That tire is unsafe to ride.
There is a puncture in the tube inside the tire. (glass shards, small pebbles, small nails…)
Go to your bike shop and get a new tube and (learn to) replace it. (or ask them to do it)
From what I can see from the picture, **you also need new tires**.
You’ll be safer if both tire and tube are replaced with new ones.
Did your local bike shop actually do anything? Or did they just take your money and run?
Because that tire is literally falling apart at the sidewall. Let alone the fact that your chain is super rusty.
You need 2 new tires, 2 new inner tubes, and a new chain. If you cant do the work yourself go find a different LBS because Id be very upset if my shop gave me this bike back in that condition and said it was good.

Someone replaced the sidewall of your tire with straw. That’s your problem.
The valve adapter isn’t supposed to be on there, I’d take that off and go from there
Thank you all for all the info and advice, i didn’t realize the bike needed as much work as it did lol- I’m going to take it in to a different bike store tomorrow.
I wish I was joking about the other store not mentioning anything similar to these comments about it but oh well. Appreciate yall 🫡

I wouldn’t trust that bike with that tire any further than I can throw them.
Tyre sidewall looks like shredded wheat.
In addition to new tires and tubes, the bike needs a new chain. Looks pretty rusty.
