I’ve just swapped my brake disks for new ones.

Fronts are fine, but I can’t stop the rear from rubbing – the inboard side has loads of clearance, but I can’t get the calliper
Outboard enough to not rub.

The new dial is within a fraction of a mm on thickness, but it does look very close to the bosses from the calliper.

While changing the disk I did notice that the locking nut on the bearing was loose, so tightened that up against the cone, but I can’t see that changing anything by more than a fraction of a mm?

Can I put a washer between the cone and locking nut (or locking nut and dropout) to try and move the wheel across slightly?

I haven’t tried putting the old brake disk back on, but that doesn’t feel like the right solution.

I did recently fully strip down the front and rear bearings, so there is a chance I may have not realised there were different thicknesses of locking nuts and mixed them up?

    Is the wheel in dish? Measure that the axle is centered under the rim, since you had the axle out of the hub. Yes you can put a washer on axle, just make sure you don’t make it too wide for the frame.

  2. Just an idea but your wheel may not be completely seated in the dropouts? It would throw the wheel off a slight angle and consequently the disc as well. Also, You may have to re bleed to the brakes if to push the pads back out a fraction of a millimeter. All of those are just tiny adjustment s that may give the clearance you are looking for.

  3. First question: is the new rotor the same brand/type as the old one? If not, try putting on the old one and seeing if the problem goes away. If so, it’s highly doubtful this is an issue.

    Second question: You haven’t had the wheel back together since the bearing service? Locknuts and cones in hubs are side-specific in many hubs.

  4. Are there any spacers between the rotor and the hub? If yes, remove them and add accordingly. They come in different thicknesses.

  5. Have you pushed the pistons of the break caliper back after changing the break disk?
    The new disk will be thicker as its not worn, also the pistons may not hace come out evenly.
