Need a downhill mountain bike but the options on FB marketplace are overwhelming. My price point is around $700 and would be willing to pay someone to filter the list for me, from best to worst?

I'm in a big metro so there are tons of options near me.

This bike will be used to ride down Angel Fire in NM, as we have a home near there:

Will definitely be riding the green runs initially, and maybe blue once I gain some confidence. I'm a barrel chested dude in good shape, 5'8" 190 lbs. Thanks.

PM me if interested, or if there are better ways to do this please let me know!

UPDATE – someone is already helping me with this, thanks in advance! I love reddit.

This community is always willing to help (for free).

Paid consultation is definitely more valid for when you are spending down payment level moeny on a bike. Be it a custom made bike or a pricey eMTB or just a top of the line rig tbh. While all those bikes are likely to be good you DEF don’t want to get the wrong geometry or size or whatever and be saddled with a 10k rig you don’t like.

There are a few guys who are notorious for helping, me being one of them.

Best bets for 700 are a used Giant Fathom, or a new Poseidon Norton or Giant Talon. But at 190 you may want to avoid bikes with QR skewers such as the Talon. Try to get proper thru axles on the Norton and Fathom.

You are really limiting your options by looking at only 190mm bikes. Also, as a beginner I would suggest a long travel trail bike or enduro bike. Try to learn some skills rather than buy a dedicated 190mm downhill bike and rely on suspension to plow over everything. Also, this will allow you to branch out to other trails that require pedaling up hill to access the fun stuff. If you can have only one bike, which it sounds like you can. Then get something a bit more versatile.

Whatever you get not to get something so old that it doesn’t have thru axles and boost spacing.
