Not sure why my front wheel caught or slipped on the rail, but it sent me over and onto the train tracks and rock on the side. Got lucky doctor says nothing broken as I have one arm and it took most of the force on the rail (knee got ground into the sharp gravel) star PT wendsday. The handle that I don't need got bent a bit and my left peddle is dented. There was a cop about half a block behind saw the whole thing and made eye contact as he drove by (this checks out per my experience but still annoying). Finished my ride to work and got help getting patched up till my appointment with doctor. Wife and mom brought my car to me. Icing my knee and elbow. Planing to ride to work again tomorrow.

Get a bike with wider tires. Wide tires are faster on rough terrain, just as fast on smooth terrain, safer over bumps, more durable, last several times longer, more comfortable, have more grip.

After switching to a rigid 29er mtb with 50mm G-one speeds, crashes and incidents basically don’t happen.

  2. Ow! How’s that happen? I ride over train tracks every commute and I’d prefer not to require wound dressing.

  3. Tracks are right bastards. My worst crash involved tracks. My buddy’s wife crashed on tracks once and actually ended up biting through her bottom lip. Bad times.

Yeah… You learn from stuff like this, and next time you’ll be more careful. I turned left across a set of tracks when it was raining in college and my tires slipped out from under me on the wet steel rail; I ended up underneath some parked cars and had arms and legs that were very similar to yours. Since then I haven’t crashed on train tracks though, so I definitely learned something in the process.

But yes, as others have said, get some wider tires; commuting on those pizza cutters will only bring more pain and suffering. However, that bike is beautiful, so maybe just keep it away from the train tracks and other gaps / edges?

You may not think it but consider yourself lucky . A work associate fell on tramlines and broke the ball off of his femur . 1 year off his bike (cat 1 racer ).
