As already said, the cables are different diameters and need their specific housing cables.

No, Shift housing is not compatible. Different diameters and different forces. That’s why brake housing is generally stiffer than shift housing.
Shifting a derailleur puts significantly less force on the system than a hard brake lever pull and why the housing and cable thickness differ.

Compressionless brake housing actually has kevlar or similar reinforcement that wraps around to hold the wires that run the length of the housing in place so it doesn’t split apart. I’ve seen der housing used for brake and it always ruptured near a bend in the housing causing a sudden loss of braking.
