I plan to commute 1.5 miles to work and bike in a city setting, will this work for now? I'll invest in something nice when I have the money and a little more insight on what I might want.
It’ll wlwork just fine for such short trips, just make sure the coaster brake is on good order. You pedal backwards to engage it

It doesn’t have brakes, how can you miss that?

Chain and tires, probably. Those are the pieces that fall apart the most/fastest on poorly maintained bikes.

Check tires, brakes & chain for maintenance; helmet, lights & bell for safety. At $30 don’t bother with a lock.
Ride it into the ground while you enjoy it.

Are those bars a thing in the US? They look totally impractical to my UK eyes. No criticism, I’ve seen similar in pictures before but thought they were more of an advertising thing.
Hope you get the bug and I’ve had some fabulous rides on charity shop (I guess this is the same as thrift store) cheap pickup bikes.

Chain, tires, tubes. Gives you a decent foundation on maintenance. I’d do the tires and tubes before the chain, and just lube the chain.

If that saddle is working for you, go rip it. If you find rubbing issues, pick up a $20 narrower saddle from your local bike shop.

Toto for the basket? 😉

It’s a single speed beach cruiser. No cables, no shifter, no derailleurs. Low maintenance! Air up the tires, lube the chain, ride it.

I’m someone who loves cruisers, too. These are low maintenance. Keep an eye on the tire air pressure, and have fun!!!

Wear a helmet, enjoy your new bike!

Make sure your back brake arm for your coaster brake is always tight. If it comes loose downhill… well… you’ll then know the importance of doing so.

Ooh. Get a set of fenders. Trust me.

Looks like a super fun bike! As others have said, give the chain a check for wear, see if the tubes are holding up and see how the tyres are doing.
Maybe also give the wheels a look to see if they’re out of true (ie obviously wobbly or out of shape).
Other than that, take it out for an afternoon cruise for a picnic (looks perfect for comfort rides like that) and see if anything feels off.
If it rides good, it is good!
