Hey bikepackers,
I recently took on the Heuvelland Explorer (this route: https://bikepacking.com/routes/heuvelland-explorer/), and although I had a good time, it turned out to be a bit too rough for my BMC URS gravel bike. The experience got me thinking about upgrading the fork to handle such demanding trails better.
I'm considering two options: the Hiride Terra and the Rockshox Rudy XPLR.
I'm hoping to get some advice from those who might have experience with either or both.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each fork?
- Hiride Terra
- Is the 20mm travel enough on rough terrain?
- Rockshox Rudy XPLR
- How does it compare to the terra in terms of shock absorption and handling?
- Any known issues or benefits in terms of durability and upkeep?
I don't ride tubeless at the moment and realize that will add some comfort as well, but probably not as much as a dedicated suspension fork.
Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I want to make sure I choose the best upgrade to enhance my ride and tackle those rough trails with confidence.
The most obvious answer is probably that I should buy an XC MTB. I however do not have the space for another bike, nor do I want to exchange my gravelbike since I just upgraded the groupset.
Thanks in advance!

What tires and pressure were you riding? I don’t know that route but to go straight for a 6-800 euro fork upgrade for a 103km route seems extreme. What was particularly rough?
